We are excited to welcome Paul Miller as our new Land Management Director. The position was previously held by Clarkson Collins, who stepped down in December 2019.
Paul is a Rhode Island native and a life-long naturalist. After receiving an undergraduate degree in Ecology from Unity College in Maine, he spent several years traveling the U. S. working on ornithological field research positions. In 2002 he was hired to work for the State of Florida in a remote, 54,000-acre wilderness area called Kissimmee Prairie Preserve to study the endangered Florida Grasshopper Sparrow. While in this position Paul managed endangered species habitat with fire, monitored rare plants, and fought with invasive species. Moving back to New England in 2015, he worked for University of Maine, the Maine Natural Heritage Program, Loon Echo Land Trust, and received a graduate degree in Natural Resource Management.
Paul’s wife Sue took a position that brought them to the Blue Hill-Deer Isle area where he most recently acted as Executive Director for the Island Heritage Trust. Paul enjoys walking in the woods and is always paying attention to birds.
