Potluck & Lecture: Bear Necessities

17 Matunuck Beach Road

Join SKLT for our final Community Potluck and Lecture and Lecture for the summer on black bears in RI. Black bears have returned to Rhode Island and have been spotted ambling around the state! While these large mammals can be intimidating, coexistence is possible when you are “Bear Aware.” Join RIDEM Division of Fish and Wildlife staff to learn about these beautiful creatures and actions you can take to avoid issues with bears.

Meet our Speakers: Mary Gannon and Abigail Clark

Mary Gannon is the Wildlife Outreach Coordinator for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. She focuses on sharing the Division’s wildlife conservation work and educating Rhode Islanders of all ages about the state’s remarkable species. One of her favorite parts of the job is joining wildlife biologists in the field — experiences that have given her some unforgettable moments. Outside of work, Mary enjoys time with her family, tending her vegetable garden, and transforming her suburban lawn into a thriving native plant habitat.

Abigail Clark is the Wildlife Outreach and Volunteer Technical Assistant for the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management’s Division of Fish and Wildlife. An outdoor educator at heart, she helps coordinate outreach and volunteer programming that connects Rhode Islanders with the natural world. She especially values getting to witness people discovering something new in nature. When she’s not working, Abby can be found with her family, shuttling her children to sports, reading, or crafting

Bring a dish, your curiosity, and your questions — and join us for an evening of learning how to better understand, live alongside, and coexist with these extraordinary species.
