Stewardship Projects

Stewardship over the South Kingstown Land Trust’s protected properties is a legal and good faith responsibility that continues forever. SKLT’s land protection efforts work hand in hand with its program of land stewardship and monitoring of protected properties. Together, work in these two areas provides the foundation to advance SKLT’s conservation mission.

SKLT’s ongoing stewardship activities include baseline documentation reports, annual monitoring, easement enforcement and defense, recordkeeping, and continuing landowner relationships. In addition to ensuring the perpetual care of the preserved lands and conservation easements, SKLT initiates important stewardship projects on our lands. These include development and maintenance of trails, preservation of natural habitats, productive use of farmland, initiatives that promote healthy forests, and innovative research with partners such as The American Chestnut Foundation and the University of Rhode Island.
