The pond will be freshly stocked with brook and rainbow trout by the RI Department of Environmental Management, and SKLT staff and experienced volunteers will be on hand throughout the day to offer guidance and support.

No registration is required. Please note that only children ages 14 and under may fish, and staff/volunteers will be on site until 4:00 p.m.

The Story Behind This Event

Located on Ledgewood Road in Kingston, this special pond sits within a restored historic landscape featuring walking trails, native plantings, and the remnants of the old Biscuit City Mill.

In 2019, the pond was reopened as a youth fishing destination (ages 14 and under) through a partnership between SKLT and the RI Department of Environmental Management. With accessible pathways and ample parking, the site was thoughtfully designed to welcome visitors of all abilities.

The pond is dedicated to the memory of Scott Evans, a young boy who tragically lost his life in 1974 after being struck by a car while fishing. In the years that followed, the pond fell out of use as it gradually filled with silt. Thanks to the vision and dedication of local resident and former SKLT Board Director Emeriti Ellen Grebstein, the pond was restored and once again stocked for young anglers. Today, it is officially recognized as a RI DEM Youth Fishing Pond.

Beloved by the community—and even a resident beaver first spotted in 2021—the pond continues to be a place of connection, reflection, and joy.

We hope you’ll join us to honor Scott’s memory and take part in something he loved deeply: being outdoors and fishing.
