And that’s a wrap! Birdability Week 2025 is officially over — but its message is something we strive to carry forward all year long.

Last week, the South Kingstown Land Trust partnered with local birder and accessibility advocate Barbara Seith to host a Birdability event at Weeden Farm.

Birdability Week celebrates birders with disabilities and other health conditions while encouraging the birding community to become more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to everyone. Inspired by movements such as #BlackBirdersWeek, Latino Conservation Week, and Let’s Go Birding Together, Birdability Week takes place each October — but its message lasts all year.

Although rainy weather meant we had to adjust our plans, the event was a wonderful opportunity to connect, learn, and share ideas for creating a more inclusive outdoor experience. SKLT is committed to ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, can enjoy nature and open space.

We’re excited to continue offering accessible birding opportunities, including Gator tours (yes — the John Deere kind, not the alligator!) every second and fourth week of the month. These tours allow visitors to explore SKLT properties and enjoy the beauty of our landscapes in a comfortable, accessible way.

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Birdability Week! Remember, there’s no “end date” for accessibility —

Open Space Makes all the Difference…
