Jonnycakes on the griddle
Jonnycakes on the griddle

In Perryville at the historic Samuel E. Perry Grist Mill, a special event is scheduled for Sunday, June 22 at 10:00 am.. Come watch the millers grind white flint corn into cornmeal and sample johnnycakes inside this fascinating working mill house, built in 1703. In continuous use since the 18th century and operated by Bob and Diane Smith over many decades, the remarkable Grist Mill is the only water-powered mill currently operating in Rhode Island. The landmark property, situated alongside picturesque Mill Pond and acquired by South Kingstown Land Trust in 2012, is located on Moonstone Beach Road in the Perryville section of South Kingstown.
