Celebrate Birdability Week with SKLT – October 20–26
Join SKLT this October for Birdability Week (October 20–26, 2025)! We’re excited to host a series of special events, including accessible Birding Gator Tours at Weeden Farm and a one-day Bird Watching event at Hale House.
Birdability Week is a national celebration that highlights birders with disabilities and other health concerns, while sharing resources and ideas to make birding—and the outdoors—more accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all. Held annually during the third week of October, the event is inspired by other inclusive initiatives such as #BlackBirdersWeek, Latino Conservation Week, and Let’s Go Birding Together.
Our events will be led by Barbara Seith, a dedicated birder who discovered her passion shortly after moving to Rhode Island in 2019. From her first Greater Yellowlegs sighting to birding nearly every morning along the coast, Barbara has embraced the birding community and now serves as the Rhode Island Captain for Birdability, helping to make nature safe and accessible for all.
At SKLT, Barbara will guide participants on Birding Gator Tours of Weeden Farm (sessions at 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM). Tours last about 1.5 hours and are fully accessible. We kindly ask that if you are able to walk our trails, please leave these spots available for those who may need them.
She will also lead a Bird Watching event at Hale House on Wednesday, October 22 at 9:00 AM. This one-day event will take place on the accessible lawn next to Hale House, with seating provided (and the option to bring your own chair for comfort).
Whether you’re a seasoned birder or just starting out, Birdability Week is a chance to celebrate the joy of birds—and to support a more inclusive birding community.
Space is limited. Registration required for all events.
