In the fall of 2020, the RI Land Trust Council invited all of RI’s land trusts to participate in a survey to gain new information on individual land conservation accomplishments and stewardship practices.39 land trusts responded and the results document the impressive number of properties and acres of land that RI Land Trusts are conserving. Some key findings:
- 61% of Rhode Island’s protected lands are held exclusively, or in partnership with, a land trust.
- More than 1,900 properties covering 55,000 acres, or 87 square miles, are protected by RI land trusts. SKLT currently protects more than 190 properties covering 3,070 acres.
- 46% of the land trusts responding have completed Baseline Documentation Reports for 76-100% of their Easement Properties. SKLT has completed BDRs on 100% of Easement Properties.
- 47% of the land trusts responding have created Management Plans for 50-100% of their Fee Properties. SKLT has completed Management Plans on 100% of Fee Properties.
And special congratulations to SKLT’s Land Management Director Tyler Maikath for recently being elected to the RI Land Trust Council Board!
