Stone walls are a familiar part of Rhode Island’s landscape. As farmers cleared their fields, they stacked stones along property lines, creating the dry-laid walls that still shape the region today. In this potluck and lecture, Jim Turek will explore the history of these stone walls and their significance to South County and Rhode Island’s agricultural history. With more than 40 years of experience in ecology, field assessment, engineering principles, and innovative restoration practices, Jim will share his expertise and offer a closer look at these fascinating features of our local landscape.
