On Sunday, January 26, 3:00 PM join SKLT as they launch their “Build Now Protect Forever” Capacity Campaign to raise $1 million to increase the organization’s capacity to steward and maintain the over 2,900 acres in SKLT’s protection. The funds raised will be used to consolidate operations and augment stewardship funding.

• Build an equipment shed to store and maintain farm and land stewardship equipment.
Currently SKLT’s maintenance equipment is scattered throughout South Kingstown in the sheds of neighbors and friends. SKLT seeks to create efficiencies and equipment sharing opportunities for young farmers and expand volunteer training and field education programs.
• Augment the Stewardship Fund, the financial resource that funds the perpetual management, legal defense and preservation of properties protected by SKLT.
In addition to the daily and seasonal care required for the stewardship of each SKLT protected property, monitoring and legal protection are significant concerns and fiscal responsibilities. While not glamorous and often overlooked, insurance and legal defense are the core responsibilities ensuring that land protected by SKLT will in fact be protected in perpetuity. Building this fund will ensure long term protection.
• Construct a modest welcome & administrative building adjacent to the proposed equipment shed on site with the Barn.
All SKLT staff needs to be under the same roof and on the same site in order to fully engage and serve our community. With a majority part-time staff, synergies are lost, and redundancies are frequent, a singular location is critical. In recognition of the importance of a central ADA compliant location for staff next to equipment and program space this element of the campaign is close to its funding goal.

The campaign launch event is open to the public. Members, citizens, community leaders and conservationists will be on hand to launch and celebrate the campaign at the SKLT Barn, 17 Matunuck Beach Rd. Kindly RSVP online at https://sklt.org/events-calendar/
